Update Reminders Are Annoying, But Necessary
We all tend to click "Remind me later" when our phone or computer asks to update. However, ignoring these updates is a massive security risk.
Why Do Updates Exist?
Software updates are not just about new features or cosmetic changes. Most updates contain Security Patches. These are fixes for vulnerabilities (holes in the code) that hackers have discovered.
The Danger of Outdated Software
When a software company releases a patch, they are publicly admitting there was a hole in their security. Hackers immediately start scanning the internet for devices that haven't updated yet to exploit that specific hole (known as an Exploit).
Best Practice: Enable "Automatic Updates" on your Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices. It is the easiest way to keep your digital doors locked against intruders.
